Restaurant ($)
3288 Pierce Street, Suite A109 (Richmond, inside Ranch
99 Plaza) |
Phone: 510-558-9168
Recommended Dish: Salt & Pepper Pork
Comment: Good size restaurant = plenty of seating = less of a wait
to eat. Parking is rarely an issue due to its large parking lot and
available street parking if you so prefer. Rarely do I eat something
here I do not enjoy--it's a great combination of Taiwanese & Chinese
food, with more Taiwanese style flavor and variety. All in all, comes
highly recommended.
Taiwan
Restaurant ($)
2071 University Avenue (Berkeley) |
Phone: 510-845-1456
Recommended Dish: Fish Flavor Pork
Comment: This restaurant isn't high end or first class by any means,
but the flavor is undeniably fresh and tasty, its service is friendly
and reliable, prices are extremely affordable for the quantity of
food, and parking is never a problem. It's a place to visit if you
enjoy good food and for the most part, leftovers, without emptying
your wallet.
Peninsula
Queen's
House ($)
273 Castro Street (Mountain View) |
Phone: 650-960-0580
Recommended Dish: Beef Tendon Noodle Soup
Comment: Incredible! Pros: Prices, low. Flavor, great. Quantity,
good. Parking, good (There is a parking lot in back in case you
can't find street parking) Variety, extensive. They even go next
door to the boba place for you in case you crave it. Cons: Wait,
potentially long. Service, tough, unless you're Chinese, and
even then--not stellar. Smiles are hard to come by, but food
is worth the wait and service.
San
Francisco
Yank Sing ($$-$$$)
101 Spear Street (San Francisco) | Phone: 415-781-1111*
49 Stevenson Street (San Francisco) | Phone: 415-541-4949
Recommended Dish: Xiao Long Bao (Little Steamed Dumplings during dim sum)
Comment: Their service is fantastic though you'll be paying for it when the check arrives. Go on the weekends if possible, they open up their restaurant and bring tables out into the atrium area which is absolutely beautiful to enjoy the waterfall originating from the Rincon Center ceiling.
South
Bay
A&J
Restaurant ($)
10893 North Wolfe Road (Cupertino) |
Phone: 408-873-8298
Recommended Dish: Beef Noodle Soup
Comment: This restaurant is perfect for the seasoned Taiwanese muncher
along with those wanting to try new foods. Their affordable prices
allow for you to order an extensive variety of foods where you can
get a different feel and taste with each plate. Every dish you order
I've ordered here has a fresh, authentic taste of Taiwan.
Ay-Chung
Noodles ($)
458 Barber Lane (Milpitas, inside Milpitas Square, outer
building) |
Phone: 408-432-8688
Recommended Dish: Minced Pork over Rice
Comment: This restaurant is known to be a famous street vendor in Taiwan
for now over 30 years. All their sides and main courses are affordable
and filling--it is definitely helpful if you have someone who reads
Chinese in your party, many of the menu translations are a bit confused.
Otherwise the atmosphere is laid back and the food is delectable.
